Spokes 1 & 2
START: What3Words - microfilm.hobby.dock
10.8 miles + 1.3 miles to start and finish the walk at Explore BoA (Tourist Information) in the centre of town.
This walk follows spokes 1 and 2 of the Bradford on Avon Walking Wheel, linked by the outer circle. The spokes are waymarked with blue roundels and the outer circle green roundels.
Start from the Inner Circle at the junction of Ashley Road and the A363 Bath Road, at the N end of the town. At the start is a short section of A363 which you soon leave to cross fields.
You continue N via Leigh House Farm and Leigh Grove Farm. N.B. There is a temporary diversion around works to Cumberwell Park Golf Course due to be be completed in the Autumn of 2022.
Continue to follow the blue roundels through Lower Wraxall then South Wraxall , joining the Outer Circle (green roundels) by Wraxall Manor House. Turn right then cross the B3109 and enter a field, keeping to the left. Cross three more fields and drop down onto a track that passes through the grounds of Stonar School. Continue east along the track. This eventually joins a quiet back road that passes the primary school; soon turn right between houses then out into open fields.
The route wiggles through several fields to eventually come out at The Common at Broughton Gifford. Turn right the cross the road to follow a track that runs into more fields. Follow these as far as the approach road to Great Chalfield Manor, turn left to follow the road which turns left in front of the Manor.
Continue for about 200 metres to enter another field and go diagonally right to drop down. Cross several more fields to the back of the industrial estate (now a housing development) and follow the path to the road. Cross straight over and bear slightly right to a hedge corner; here you join Spoke 2 (blue roundels). Turn right and follow the fields (muddy in winter!) to the road at a point just west of Mirkens Farm and turn left.
From here the route follows the road to turn left onto the B3109 before turning left across farmland towards Woolley Barn Farm and then on to Woolley Street, again on the edge of Bradford on Avon.
It finishes on the Inner Circle at The George public house.
