River & Canal

We recommend you use a map with this description, either on the OS Maps smartphone app or an OS map such as the Bradford on Avon Walking Wheel map.

The walk starts and finishes outside Explore BoA (Tourist Information) and follows an anti clockwise direction.

Start with your back to Explore BoA. Turn right to go to the road then right again and into St Margaret's car park. Cross this diagonally left to pass in front of Timbrells Yard and join the riverside path. Pass under the railway bridge and keep straight ahead into a grassy area.

At the tarmac access road turn right to follow this road for about 500 metres. At the wooden fingerpost bear off right onto a rougher track and into the Country Park, with the river on your right.

Follow the path as it meanders through the park and eventually reaches the weir at Avoncliff. Turn left to take the zigzag path up the slope to the canal towpath. Turn right to reach the aqueduct and take in the views.

To return to BoA, initially retrace your steps but keep on the canal path, first passing the swing bridge and later the back of the Tithe Barn.  About 250 metres further on turn left down a short track to reach the road.

Turn left then after another 150 metres left again down Pound Lane. At the bend at the bottom turn off right into Culver Close playing field.

Go round the field side of the stone building and follow the tarmac path in front of the building past the Bowls Club. Bear right to pass under the railway bridge and return to the start alongside the riverside path.
