SU3: WALK and CANAL CRUISE
Adult £12 / U16 £8 - 5 miles, bring picnic lunch
Date: Sunday 8th September
Start Time: 10.00
Distance: 5 miles
Duration: 5 hours
Difficulty: Moderate
Places: 20
Start Point: Explore BoA, Westbury Gardens BA15 1DE (W3W: thud.forced.issuer)
Leader: Helen Powell
Please note we meet at the registration tent in Westbury Gardens.
Please arrive 10 minutes before the stated start time, to allow for registration and briefing and may we remind you that we have an ‘assistance dogs only’ policy?
If the weather is particularly warm, as it can be this time of year, we recommend bringing plenty of water.
The walk will start with a climb, mainly on footpaths and quiet roads to the North west out of BoA. Continuing across fields and along country lanes we’ll skirt the village of Winsley as far as the hamlet of Conkwell. On emerging from the woods we’ll stop to admire the lovely views along the Avon Valley and over to the American Museum on the edge of Bath.
A steep descent into the Avon Valley takes us to Dundas where we’ll eat our picnic lunch before embarking on the canal boat for our leisurely, 2 hour canal cruise back to BoA lock along the lovely Kennet and Avon Canal. Refreshments will be available to buy on board. We’ll cross two aqueducts, at Avoncliff and Dundas and there will be plenty of wildlife to spot en route - herons, swans, ducks and kingfishers if we’re lucky.
