SU4: LANES, FIELDS and WOODLANDS
Adult £3 / U16 £2 - 6 miles
Date: Sunday 8th September
Start Time: 13.30
Distance: 6 miles
Duration: 3 hours
Difficulty: Moderate
Places: 20
Start Point: Explore BoA, Westbury Gardens BA15 1DE (W3W: thud.forced.issuer)
Leader: Richard Craft
Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the stated start time, to allow for registration and briefing and may we remind you that we have an ‘assistance dogs only’ policy? If the weather is particularly warm, as it can be this time of year, we recommend bringing plenty of water.
This is a perfect walk for a Sunday afternoon, through fields and along country lanes to the Northwest of the town, with big skies and wide, far reaching views.
We’ll start with a steady climb out of BoA winding up through the narrow pathways of Tory and enjoying great views across the town. Leaving the town behind we’ll join Spoke 8 of the Walking Wheel to cross several fields, eventually reaching the new tree planting at Inwood.
In 2019 Brian May, Queen guitarist and dedicated environmentalist bought much of Inwood and many acres of surrounding fields to plant around 100,000 new trees, which are now growing strongly and becoming well established. We’ll walk through part of this new woodland then skirt the original, ancient woodland of Inwood. Crossing more fields, including a recently established wildflower meadow and a newly planted hedgerow we’ll reach the edge of the town.
The final section will take us through the pathways of Tory via a different route, passing the chapel of St Mary Tory that sits high above the town,
finishing off alongside the River Avon back to the start.
After the climb out of town at the beginning, the terrain is relatively level and we’ll be crossing several stiles.
Booking from 1st August
