  • Start Time: 17.30

  • Distance: 4 miles

  • Duration: 3.5 hours

  • Difficulty: Moderate

  • Places: 15

  • Start Point: Explore BoA, Westbury Gardens BA15 1DE (W3W: thud.forced.issuer)

  • Leader: Danny O’Callaghan

Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the stated start time, to allow for registration and briefing and may we remind you that we have an ‘assistance dogs only’ policy?

We’ll meet at the registration tent in Westbury Gardens then board the minibus which takes us 10 miles to the historic village of Edington, which lies under the dramatic escarpment of Salisbury Plain, believed to be the site of King Alfred's battle with the Danes in 878. Our walk sets off past the fourteenth century Edington Priory and through Tinhead.

Crossing the B3098, we follow a bridleway up Coulston Hill, taking the path south west, we see Tottenham Woods and its long barrows. Over the long hollow road, we walk west to Patcombe Hill where stunning views of Luccombe Bottom, Longcombe Bottom and Combe Bottom are revealed.

The evening light will accentuate the beauty of these post glacial features. The path meanders to Picquet Hill and to one of the best views across Wiltshire where we will toast the sunset (Prosecco supplied, a soft drink alternative will be provided), looking back towards Bradford on Avon, the outskirts of Bath, across to Melksham and Devizes and the Pewsey Vale.

A gentle path descends back to Edington and the minibus, to take us back to Bradford on Avon.

Booking from 1st August
