SU3: WILLIAM'S WOOLLY WANDERINGS

from £2.00
SOLD OUT

Adult £3 / U16 £2 - 5.5 miles

Please note the start time is the time we leave so please arrive 10 minutes beforehand to allow for registration and briefing.

Also, we have a ‘no dogs except assistance dogs’ policy for all our walks.

As well as passing through some delightful countryside, this morning walk will pass buildings and sites linked to the weaving industry which helped make Bradford on Avon a prosperous town from Medieval times right up to the late 19th Century.

The walk will follow the canal path to the Swing Bridge, climb up to Lower Westwood and pass through the village before descending to Avoncliff. The return will be via the canal path and Country Park alongside the river.

William will focus on how the textile industry influenced the development of the areas we are walking through. There will be relaxed mentioning of the clothiers who developed the area and their heritage, reflected both in their houses and the vernacular architecture of the weavers’ houses and the industrial buildings that still exist today, along with their present day functions.
