SU1: WALKING WHEEL OUTER CIRCLE Walk 2

Please note the start time is the time we leave so you’ll need to arrive 10 minutes beforehand for registration & briefing.

Also, we have a ‘no dogs except assistance dogs’ policy for all our walks.

This is the second of 2 days which provide an opportunity to complete the whole of the renowned outer circuit of the Bradford on Avon Walking Wheel.

The walk will start at the registration tent where a minibus takes a 20 minute drive to Atworth. From here the walk heads South using footpaths to Broughton Gifford and then onwards to Great Chalfield. There are several stiles to negotiate on this section.

Footpaths across fields take us to Holt and a short road section leads into Staverton where we pick up the canal towpath. We follow the canal from Trowbridge to Bradford on Avon Marina and cross farmland to head south into Wingfield, across the B3109, crossing Snarlton Farm to Stowford Farm. We then climb gently out of the River Frome valley to Westwood.

We walk through Westwood and descend back into the Avon Valley at Avoncliff where we follow the river back to the starting point.

There is 600 feet of climb and it is fairly strenuous with a number of stiles to negotiate. This walk is the easier of the two.
