Turleigh, Winsley, Avoncliff, Conkwell circular

With your back to Explore BoA turn left on the path to follow the wall as far as the river. Turn left through the gap & follow the path along the end of the car park then over the footbridge.

Bear left through the churchyard of Holy Trinity Church, go up through the short alley, Church Lane, then turn left in front of some stone houses along Barton Orchard. After about 100m climb the wide steps on your right up to the road. Cross over and turn left; you are now on Belcombe Road.

Continue straight along this road, passing Belcombe Court on your right then another road that branches off to your left a bit further on. Continue straight on up the hill, (great views over Avoncliff and the Avon Valley at the top) drop down, then up again to wiggle through Turleigh.

Pass the end of Green Lane and continue round to the right then continue climbing. About 300m further up take the path up the steps to the left by the wooden house to follow the green waymarker of The Wheel. Continue along the enclosed path to come out by the War Memorial.

Continue straight ahead on the pavement to the bend, cross the road and walk on to the church on your right. Turn right along the wide path alongside the church.

Where the path joins a road turn left then right to reach the main road (Winsley by-pass). Cross straight over onto Blackberry Lane and follow this for about 250m to a farm gate on your left.

Go through this gate and turn left to cross the field, keeping the hedge on your left; pass through a gate into another, small field then another gate to cross the horse riding gallop between the fencing. Cross the stone stile onto the lane and turn left.

Follow the lane to the main road, cross straight over and along the drive to the Avonpark Village residential complex. Turn left into the small car park at the end and go straight ahead onto a field. Cross this diagonally left on clear paths to a road. Cross over and turn right then first left to wind round the back road of old Winsley, passing the entrance to Burghope Manor.

Take care here - just before the church look out for a path on the right that passes between high walls (cars sometimes park here) as far as the road. Turn left to the bend then right to wind round the Bowls Club as far as the Village Hall.

Continue to follow the lane round to the right as far as the Cricket Club. Go through the squeeze stile onto a narrow path between the cricket field and a farmer’s field. Follow this all the way down to the track which you cross and continue on down the field on a fenced path. Go through the metal gate, down some steps then left into a small car park at the end of Avoncliff Aqueduct.

Cross the aqueduct and stay on the towpath for about 500m, as far as the wooden bridge that crosses the canal. Bear off left down the slope onto the tarmac road and follow this, keeping the river on your left.

Follow this road for a further 600m as far as the packhorse bridge over the river (Tithe Barn is over to your right). Don’t cross the bridge but turn left onto a tarmac path that continues alongside the river, passes under the railway bridge then onto the public car park in front of Timbrells Yard.

Cross the car park diagonally right to the road then left into Westbury Gardens and back to where you started.
