Spokes 5 & 6

START: What3Words - congratulations.barn.ridiculed

3.2 miles + 0.9 mile to start and finish at Explore BoA (Tourist Information).

This walk follows spokes 5 and 6 of the Bradford on Avon Walking Wheel, linked by the outer circle. The spokes are waymarked with blue roundels and the outer circle green roundels.

It starts at the junction of Jones Hill and Southleigh to the SE of the town, following the blue roundels.

Continue up Jones Hill for about 50m then turn left to cross a stile into the first field (there is sometimes cattle in these fields). Cross the field to the right of the building with the blue doors (one of the ventilation/escape buildings for the mines below).

Cross several more fields in a broadly SW direction to reach The New Inn at Lower Westwood. Cross straight over the road towards Westwood Manor and the church.

At the church gate follow the green roundels to wiggle through the churchyard and join a footpath to continue straight ahead across two small fields then drop into the road. Turn left then soon right into Orchard Close.

Follow the track which joins a road then leave the road onto a footpath along the back of houses and opening on to a small park. Continue on the winding tarmac track to the road, cross over and drop down to join a footpath through a metal squeeze stile.

At this point it's worth going immediately left at the low red brick wall, to follow a very short detour which offers a great view of the Avoncliff Aqueduct below. Carry on this path to rejoin the route a few metres further on.

Descend the rocky path and continue on downhill along the road to the aqueduct. Pass under the aqueduct and up the other side to follow the blue roundels of Spoke 6 along the canal towpath for just over a mile to finish the route at the Tithe Barn.
