Date: Friday 31st August
Start Point: War Memorial, Westbury House Gardens BA15 1DE
Walk Cost: £4 / £3
Max. Number: 15
Leader: Isobel Geddes
Our leader is a local geologist who has written a book about the geology of the BoA area. She will explain how the underlying geology has affected the form of the river valley as well as the building stones which give the town its character. We’ll start in the town around the Saxon Church and St Mary Tory then follow the Avon to the old quarries at Avoncliff, returning along the Kennet & Avon canal to look at the geology pit beyond the marina where it is possible to collect fossils. We will stop occasionally to enable explanations of what we’re looking at.
